Even a non statistician will know the terminologies like standard deviation, correlation and regression. Do you know how all these came into existence. It is because of Francis Galton.During recent times many researchers tries hard to publish their articles in various journals , but it was Galton and Pearson together who made the existence of biometrika - Journal of Mathematical Statistics and Biostatistics and it was called as biometry in the later period . I am sure everybody would be aware of Charles Darwin, Francis galton is cousin of Darwin.
Thereafter in 1911, they did found the Worlds first university statistics department at University College London (wiki) . Pearson had 3 chilren, where one of his son is Egon Pearson ,very famous for development of Neyman pearson Lemma in Hypothesis testing.
